Arts galore at festival in Hermanus
Gear up for a jam-packed opening weekend at The FynArts As well as the presentation of the Legacy Award to Pieter-Dirk Uys by Christopher Hope, and a performance by Uys on Sunday 11 June.
You can look forward to a programme that includes the following highlights:
Opening Concert – performed by the festival orchestra conducted by Richard Cock on Friday 9 June at 18:30 at the Dutch Reformed church, Hermanus. It will showcase two talented musicians studying at UCT, Pieter Joubert (violin) and Ashlin Grobbelaar (cello). The two will perform well-known works by Tartini, CPE Back and Vivaldi with the orchestra.
Opening address Saturday 10 June at 09:30 at the Dutch Reformed Church, Hermanus. Dr Imtiaz Sooliman will be the opening speaker of this year’s Strauss & Co Series of Presentations and Interviews. Dr Sooliman is the founder of the Gift of the Givers Foundation.
Family Concert – Saturday 10 June at 12:00 at the Dutch Reformed church, Onrus. Here you can expect a wonderfully interactive and fun event for the whole family, when Richard Cock introduces young and old to the orchestra in a relaxed and entertaining manner.
Mzansi Tenors – Saturday 10 June at 18:30 at the Dutch Reformed church, Hermanus. If you have not yet heard a performance of this group, do not miss this special, uplifting and exhilarating show. The Mzansi Tenors have been wowing audiences all over South Africa for a while and are now set to do so in Hermanus once again.
