Hermanus local golden boy wins
Hermanus’ golden boy has done it again!
Tristan Roberts, crowned the IBC Bodyboarding World Champion last year, started this year’s tour on a high note when he won the first competition, at Antofagasta Chile, on Sunday.
“As an athlete I devote my life to this sport,” he wrote on his Facebook page. “Day in, day out. I am a true believer in hard work paying off. It always does, eventually.
“I do believe the day I cannot dedicate 100% of myself to this sport as I do now is the day I walk away from competing.”
He said he is so happy to be able to accomplish this goal, which had seemed impossible to him. “I truly had to fight the negativity in my head and get to work. I appreciate you all so much for supporting me on this journey.
“Sometimes we win, sometimes we learn, but this time I got to do both.
“Fun fact: 27 May 2018 was my first World Tour event win and it was the @abfchile event, today on 27 May that I managed to win again.”
He is looking forward to the next event in Arica in Chile.• After the first IBC World Tour event Tristan is in the lead with 3 250 points, with Tanner McDaniel from Hawaii in second place with 2 795 points and Amaury Lavernhe in third place with 2 373 points.
