Cape Whale Coast Bookstore
Cape Whale Coast bookshops are to local authors and readers what Walker Bay is to whales – a thriving environment. Last count we had about 50 authors living in the Cape Whale Coast and their books can be found curated and displayed in our bookstores. Bookshops are to everyone else a place of discovery – no matter the weather.
Gansbaai Book Exchange is conveniently close to the Tourism Visitor Centre and filled to the brim with pre-owned books.
Hermanus: In the CBD you can follow a book trail starting at Hemingways of Hermanus – established in 1995 – on Victoria Square. Walk to The Bookmark Hermanus on Main Road where the window display is guaranteed to draw you in. The Book Cottage with nooks and crannies uncovering relevant books – topical to the region and times. Quirk and Leopard is in the Hermanus Gateway Centre and Bargain Books and CNA are both in the Whale Coast Mall. PNA has moved to the Checkers Centre in Hermanus.
SANTA and Overstrand Hospice Shop across the road from one another in Aberdeen Street, Rotary Anns Bargain Box in Mitchell Street – all have preloved books at giveaway prices.
Kleinmond: Harbour Road Books, Oupa se Boekwinkel in Main Rd, Between the Lines Books in Harbour Road and Kleinmond Boekwinkel in the Spar Centre.
Stanford: Egret and the Owl is more than a Stanford Bookshop. It is a café, lunch spot and conversation hub.
Pringle Bay: Ems Bookshop in the Anchor Centre.
The Overstrand has 9 libraries from Betty’s Bay and many Little Free Libraries such as the one at Bongi’s Coffee at Davies Pool in Onrus. Please share your favourite local bookshop with us and tell us why this is such a great place.
