Housed in an original strandveld house and showcasing the rich history of the surrounding area, this quaint little gem is situated right on the beachfront at Franskraal. This treasure is privately owned by local historians, famous storytellers and born and bred stravelders. It is situated near Dyer Island for every good reason, as this house used to house the headman of Dyer Island whenever he visited the mainland.
This authentic little house is thus the perfect setting to house artifacts from days gone by. On view are some of the original furniture of the last headman, a collection of the daily life of an island – worker and the largest private collection of relics from the HMS Birkenhead Troopship that wrecked in 1852. This museum will keep you captivated with history, interesting facts, and enchanting and fascinating stories of yesteryear.
